How to spend your evening(s) in Houston

On a short visit for the OTC in Houston we had the nights off and wanted to experience the city of Texas!

We stayed in a hotel close to the NRG, but due to the hot weather and that the naberhood wasn’t that good. It wasn’t possible to walk to the NRG. We’ve could better checked this before our travel. Later on we noticed when you stay Downtown and just take a taxi, shuttle or Uber to the OTC and back, you can make a stroll in the evening, visit shops, bars and restaurants, for this Downtown is perfect. Good hotel option: JW Marriott Houston Downtown. Therefor my advice check out Houston hotels before you travel just to be sure you have a nice location to explore a bit of Houston.

On our first night we were invited by a typical American company for a bbq. For us Dutch people we call these typical Texas BBQ’s a Walking dinner, but nevertheless with very good food!

Ever tasted the Korean kitchen? The following night we were invited by an old colleague for a dinner at Seoul Garden. The couple lived as expats in Korea, but went back to Houston. We took an Uber and arrived at our destination. Which entrance looked not really nice from the outside. If they had said to me there is a supermarket behind the entrance i would have believed it. As soon as I walked in I imagined myself in Asia. They ordered various recipes and we shared dining. It was so good, but way too much. The nice thing from America is that you can ask for a doggybag which we did.

After freshing up in the hotel we went to the museum of Fine arts for an event. Usually during the week you can only visit the museum on a Thursday evening until 21:00 pm. It was a beautifull surrounding to have a reception. Later that evening we wanted to get some food. Someone recommended us to go to Casa do Brasil steakhouse for the best meat. I’ve never had so much meat presented on a skewer. An unlimited salad bar with lovely fresh ingredients and perfect wine added to the meat, it was gorgeous.

Later that week we had an event in River Oaks Garden Club. If you ever want to give a reception for a party or wedding. It is the perfect location with a beautifull garden. There was a live band playing and Bbq organized. After this event we went for drinks to Sam’s Boat. You can party here all night long.

On the last night we decided to go to see a baseball game from the Astros. We went in and got our selves a large beer. This is really a night out full of fun and entertainment. You can get yourself some chickenwings, fries or go and get any merchandise from Astros. After the Astros had won the game we went to a few bars around Market Square, El Big bad, Bovine & Barley. If you search for a hotel in Houston this is a really nice area to stay and from walking distance to restaurants and bars. Not far from here you have a really nice rooftop bar Z on 23 Rooftop.

Astros – Minute Maid Park

Shopping night out at the Galleria, but be on time. During the week it’s only open until 20:00 pm. Also the restaurants are limited and full soonest. Therefor we went searching on the internet for a nice place to go to. As we didn’t had any Tex Mex yet I searched for a mexican restaurant. We ordered an Uber and went to a Mexican restaurant on the same road. Unfortunately this road was very long, but really worth the journey. We came close to the restaurant and thought is this really it? isn’t it closed as it really looked dark and you couldn’t look in, but as soon as we went into Armandos. Delicious homemade nachos and a large menu where I couldn’t make a decission off. With some help of the waittress we had a very good meal.

Unfortunately the next day we had to leave Houston and fly home again. Houston is a nice city, but you need to search for the right areas where to stay.
