Discover the heel of Italy
Surrounded by the adriatic coast and the Ionion Sea. Everything grows and is made right in front of you. From the picturesque villages you can see olive trees all around you. Enjoy the best local food; pomodoro tomato, cheeses like Burrata, Mozzarella and Scamorza, homemade Orecchiette pasta, bellissimo!

Alberobello
On our way to the village Alberobello you will already see some Trulli’s. We parked our car on top of the hill and walked all the way down, until we saw a magnificent view of Trulli’s in front of us. After making some pictures we indulged ourselves into the streets surrounded with Trulli’s. Lot’s of tourist shops are located in the Trulli’s nowadays.

Martina Franca
We stayed in a Trulli close to Martina Franca. A nice small city where you can go for groceries or go to a restaurant. From the Trulli we visited all the places close in the area it’s all good driving by car. We hired a small car at the airport to discover all of Puglia. The roads more south aren’t that well if you don’t stick to the highway, but even more nice views around you.

Matera
This city was on top of my list already for a few years now. First time I was in Puglia in 2017 we didn’t make it to visit this city. It’s so typical, because of the Sassi houses, which are build out of the mountain. The Sassi have now been surrounded by modern houses. You can still visit the cavehouses, but people don’t live there anymore since 1952, because of hygien it wasn’t allowed to live there anymore.

Scene James Bond ‘No Time to die’

Before we travelled to Puglia I also discovered that a part of the movie ‘No time to die’ from James Bond had been taken in this village. So we couldn’t recist to discover where exactly the shots were made and walked all around the village. Also when you have some shopping to do, look for fresh fruit or just want to explore the italian restaurants?
Matera has it all.

Lecce
A beautifull century old city you can’t miss during your visit to Puglia. With roman amphitheaters, cathedrals, basilica’s, piazza’s and a lot more history to find in this southern city.

Polignano a Mare
Famous for the rock beach and views close to the centre with many restaurants and boutique shops. Stay in one of the small streets with great views over the rocks.

Ostuni
The white city for a nice evening stroll, drinks, food, gelato and the view of many olive trees up to the sea.

Tip: Masseria Brancati
Do you want to visit one of the olive oil producers? Since 2017 I only have this olive oil at home. What started many years ago as lamp oil is now a delicious olive oil to enjoy. When you contact Masseria Brancati you can book a tour during your stay and get to know everything about the olive oils and ofcourse also taste the different olive oils.

Manduria
Interested in a good winetasting? At primitivo di Manduria you will taste a lot of delicious white and red wines. My favourite is Sonetto, but it’s a heavy one, so enjoy it with a heavy diner. First enjoy the museum, then maybe you want to gather the wine yourself from the tank, or just enjoy the wonderfull wines from the bottle. Just a tip, you can choose for shipping to your homecountry which I did. After our tasting we couldn’t drive already so we asked for a nice restaurant in Manduria. We were send to Trattoria Messapica – Cucina Tipica Salentina Bistrot and we enjoyed delicious pasta’s. We wouldn’t have got there without this tip, so always ask a local for nice food close by, Italians know there food.

Locorotondo
A small village located on a platform above the area with a magnificent view around you. Like the other villages lots of restaurants and boutique shops to stroll through the streets.

Noci
A friend of mine discovered that there was a musicfestival going on in a small village only 30 minutes drive away from our Trulli. To reach this village you will drive small roads, we even saw goats in a tree with their sheperd, Yes I am sure I wasn’t dreaming. When we arrived in the village it was already pretty busy. Every street you went into there were small bands playing good music.

Bari
An harbour city with fisherboats mixed with new yachts, a large boulevard and protected by a city wall you can make a good walk through and above the city. Search for the street of the orrechiette pasta. The ladies are in these streets for many years making pasta right in front of you. They do this so quickly it almost looks very easy to make.
